Goolwa Secondary College Christmas lunch

Since the beginning of Goolwa Secondary College in 2022, PCW Amy Mackenzie has organised a whole school Christmas lunch on the last Thursday of Term 4.

This now yearly tradition is an event that both students and staff look forward to each year, and is a celebratory marking point for the school community.

Tables and chairs are put out on the grass and decorated with Christmas table cloths and decorations. Students sit around sharing a meal together of hot chicken, hot chips and salad, with Icecream and chocolate sauce for dessert. Cordial flavoured drinks are available and there is a visit from “Santa”, who delivers gifts to some of the students in the cohort. With Christmas music playing, a nativity scene in the background and staff and students sharing food together, it really is a very special event, with each student being seen and valued and having a chance to connect and have fun at Christmas time.

This event is deeply supported by the wider Goolwa Community, whose generosity allows the Christmas love to be shone on our students and staff at this time. In 2024 we want to say a huge thankyou to the wonderful contributions and support from the Wider Goolwa Community who helped to make our whole school Christmas lunch special!

Thankyou to the combined Goolwa Churches for their financial donations towards the lunch, special mention to Goolwa Lutheran Church who directly donated $500.

Thanks to our volunteers who helped out on the day. Representatives from Schools Ministry Group, Vive Church Goolwa, Goolwa Uniting Church, Goolwa Church of Christ, Alexandrina Council, Headspace Victor Harbor and The Fleurieu Sun who helped to set up, decorate, prepare, serve the lunch and photographically capture the event.”

Thank you for you generosity

Goolwa Secondary College

Nginti nankeri (Hello), my name is Midi Bettcher, and I am honoured to introduce myself as the new Pastoral Care Worker at Goolwa Secondary College. Although this role is new for me, I am not new to the school—I have been part of Goolwa Secondary College since it first opened. Over the years, I have come to deeply love and appreciate the school’s culture, students, staff and leadership team, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support our community in a different way.

My passion for helping young people is grounded in my Christian faith, which guides me to show compassion, understanding, and genuine care. I believe every student has unique value, and I am committed to creating a safe and supportive space where they feel heard and encouraged.

I look forward to continuing my journey with this wonderful school and serving our community with kindness, integrity, and care.
